Debrief Rooms
The Sim Lab has six debrief rooms. Four are located within Room 210 (Interdisciplinary Team Station) across from the inpatient rooms, while the fifth and sixth (240A and 240B) are situated across the hallway on the second floor. Rooms 240A and 240B can function as two smaller spaces, or the retractable wall between them can be opened to create one larger debrief room as needed.
In addition to post-simulation debriefing, these rooms can also double as prebrief rooms, providing a comfortable and private space for faculty to orient learners, review objectives, and establish expectations before the simulation begins.
Debrief rooms are designated spaces where learners, faculty, and facilitators gather immediately after a simulation to reflect on the experience. These rooms are intentionally designed to support open discussion, feedback, and guided reflection, all of which are essential for reinforcing learning objectives and improving performance.
The environment in a debrief room is different from the simulation space itself. Seating is arranged to encourage conversation and eye contact rather than clinical activity. Each room includes audio-visual capabilities with 98" displays so participants can review simulation recordings when needed. Whiteboards and digital displays are available to capture key discussion points and themes that emerge during reflection.
The primary purpose of a debrief room is to provide a safe, quiet, and private setting where participants can step out of “performance mode” and move into “reflection mode.” In this space, learners are encouraged to process what happened during the simulation, discuss their decision-making, evaluate teamwork and communication, and identify both strengths and areas for improvement. Facilitators guide the discussion to connect the simulation experience with real-world practice, making the debrief an integral part of the learning process.
