What is Simulation?
Simulation is an educational approach that recreates aspects of real-world practice in a structured and intentional way. In healthcare and public health education, simulation allows learners to practice clinical, communication, and decision-making skills without risk to real patients or communities.
Simulation may involve manikins, task trainers, standardized patients, simulated environments, or a combination of methods. The level of realism is selected based on learning goals. Not all simulation requires high technology. Simple approaches are often used when they best support learning.
Simulation is most effective when paired with clear objectives, preparation, and guided reflection. In the Simulation Lab, simulation is used as a teaching and learning strategy, not as a performance test unless clearly identified as an assessment.
