HIPAA Network
The HIPAA Network at Temple University provides a secure environment for transmitting and storing sensitive health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This network is specifically configured to support systems and users working with Protected Health Information (PHI), ensuring data is encrypted, access is restricted, and activity is monitored according to federal and university standards. All devices and services operating within this network are subject to rigorous security policies, including endpoint protection, limited internet access, and regular compliance audits.
Access to the HIPAA Network is exclusively granted through the HIPAA VPN, which maintains an encrypted connection between the user's device and the secure network environment. The HIPAA VPN is always active on authorized devices, creating a persistent secure tunnel that protects PHI during transmission. Users working within the HIPAA environment must follow strict access protocols, including the use of managed devices, Temple credentials, and two-factor authentication. This setup helps ensure that all HIPAA-related research, documentation, and communication remain secure and compliant.
HIPAA VPN accounts are limited to selected individuals who need to access resources that are not available in TUapps or from their computer. To request a HIPAA VPN account, contact the Help Desk through the TUhelp website and include the name of the resource you need to access.
